While the woman walks unconsciously, the man by her side examines her breasts. Breasts were then an especially hot item (cream coloured breasts weren't seen so often with slave mistresses in the British West Indian slave plantations). Jane Austen was quite aware that this partially explained the socially destructive "absenteeism" (it wasn't only "pluralism").
